Welcome!
I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, relational trauma, religious trauma, and those experiencing life transitions. I most often use internal family systems, existential therapy, play therapy, and systems-based modalities.
I believe counseling should be a collaborative experience where every client is able to be authentically themselves. I recognize that you are the expert of yourself, and I will meet you where you are at when you first walk into my office. I will not ask you to change who you are but, I will challenge you to become a more complete version of yourself.
I pledge: to keep you emotionally safe; to challenge you to learn more of yourself in the world; to laugh with you; to seek justice with you; to be authentic with you, and to help you find meaning, solutions, and next steps.
I will work with you to create individualized and specific goals, where we will seek to create solutions and coping skills. We will explore the systems you live within and the roles you take on. We will explore the various parts of who you are, and move towards a more harmonious functioning between these parts. We will look to create meaning and lasting emotional and behavioral change so you can live more authentically and more fulfilled.
In technical jargon, I will utilize relational and attachment evidence-based modalities including: existential; systemic; internal family systems; solution-focused, and client-centered play therapy to optimally work towards your specific goals. The modalities I specifically use most often with you will depend on your specific wants and needs, and I am happy to discuss this further with you!
Life Transitions
I am passionate about working with those experiencing life transitions (something often inevitable, but never easy). Whether it’s marriage, divorce, a new child, losing a loved one, graduating, retiring from sport, physical injury, or changing careers most transitions are challenging. We can end up feeling like we have lost a piece of ourselves, and trying to put the pieces together again in a changed environment can be overwhelming, confusing, and lonely. If you are experiencing grief and other challenges in acclimating to recent changes in your life counseling may be able to help.
LGBTQIA+
Marginalized groups including, LGBTQIA+ individuals disproportionately experience anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and other mental health concerns often as a result of social stigma, and discrimination. Finding your authentic self in the face of societal pressures and expectations can be difficult. The acute and chronic stress of being a member of a minority group, while trying to integrate, learn, and love your identity is often challenging. If you are experiencing challenges related to LGBTQIA+ identity, or are simply seeking an affirming therapist, please reach out today.
Relational Trauma and Religious Trauma
Relational trauma is trauma that occurs within a close relationship, including abuse or abandonment. Trauma originating from close relationships can impact your mental health, along with the way you view and understand yourself as well as the relationships around you. Reclaiming yourself, and forming healthy relationships following relational trauma can be challenging.
Religious trauma occurs when a religious or spiritual experience is degrading, coercive, or abusive. Religious trauma can significantly impact your sense of self-worth, identity, and mental health. Moving forward often involves unpacking your values and beliefs, grieving, and creating new connections (to self, and to healthy community). The process of deconstruction and healing from religious trauma can feel overwhelming and isolating.
